Drug Interactions With Alfuzosin

Before taking alfuzosin, make sure your healthcare provider is aware of any other medications you are taking. Alfuzosin drug interactions can occur with several medications, including blood pressure medications, certain antibiotics, and nitrates. These reactions can increase the level of alfuzosin in your blood, possibly increasing your risk of dangerous side effects.

An Overview of Alfuzosin Interactions

Alfuzosin hydrochloride (Uroxatral®) can potentially interact with several other medications. Some of these medicines that may lead to alfuzosin drug interactions include:
 
 
    • Clarithromycin (Biaxin®)
    • Erythromycin (Ery-Tab®)
    • Fluconazole (Diflucan®)
    • Isoniazid (Nydrazid®)
    • Itraconazole (Sporanox®)
    • Ketoconazole (Nizoral®)
    • Miconazole
    • Telithromycin (Ketek®)
    • Voriconazole (VFEND®)
 
  • Certain HIV or AIDS medications, including:
 
 
 
 
 
    • Isosorbide dinitrate (BiDil®, Dilatrate® SR, Isochron™, Isordil®)
    • Isosorbide mononitrate (Imdur®, Ismo®, Monoket®)
    • Nitroglycerin tablets or capsules (NitroQuick®, Nitrostat®, Nitro-Time®)
    • Nitroglycerin ointment (Nitro-Bid®)
    • Nitroglycerin patches (Minitran®, Nitrodisc®, Nitro-Dur®, Transderm-Nitro®, Transderm-NTG®)
    • Nitroglycerin spray (Nitrolingual®)
 
  • Other alpha blockers similar to alfuzosin, including:
 
 
  • Quinidine.
