Drug Interactions With Doxazosin XL
Before taking doxazosin XL, make sure your healthcare provider is aware of any other medications you are taking. Some medications, such as alpha blockers, blood pressure medications, and certain antibiotics, can cause negative drug interactions when taken with doxazosin XL. These reactions can alter the amount of the medications in your blood, possibly causing side effects or lowering your blood pressure to unsafe levels.
An Overview of Doxazosin XL Interactions
Doxazosin XL (Cardura® XL) may potentially react with many other medications. Some of the drugs that may lead to doxazosin XL interactions include but are not limited to:- Blood pressure medications
- Certain antibiotics or antifungals, such as:
- Clarithromycin (Biaxin®)
- Erythromycin (Ery-Tab®)
- Fluconazole (Diflucan®)
- Isoniazid (Nydrazid®)
- Itraconazole (Sporanox®)
- Ketoconazole (Nizoral®)
- Miconazole
- Telithromycin (Ketek®)
- Voriconazole (VFEND®)
- Amprenavir (Agenerase®)
- Atazanavir (Reyataz®)
- Darunavir (Prezista®)
- Delavirdine (Rescriptor®)
- Fosamprenavir (Lexiva®)
- Indinavir (Crixivan®)
- Nelfinavir (Viracept®)
- Ritonavir (Norvir®)
- Saquinavir (Invirase®)
- Cyclosporine (Gengraf®, Neoral®, Sandimmune®)
- Imatinib (Gleevec®)
- Nefazodone (Serzone®)
- Other alpha blockers similar to doxazosin XL, such as:
- Alfuzosin (Uroxatral®)
- Carvedilol (Coreg®)

- Labetalol (Trandate®)
- Methyldopa
- Phenoxybenzamine (Dibenzyline®)

- Phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitors (PDE5 inhibitors), such as:
- Quinidine.
