Ifex Drug Interactions

Clozapine
Using clozapine and Ifex together may cause dangerously low white blood cell counts, which would increase your risk for potentially serious infections. Talk to your healthcare provider about this potential interaction if you take clozapine. Do not stop taking clozapine unless your healthcare provider specifically tells you to do so.

Cyclosporine
Cyclosporine can significantly increase Ifex blood levels, which would increase your risk for potentially serious side effects. If you use these medicines together, your healthcare provider may choose to give you a lower Ifex dosage.

CYP 3A4 Inducer Medications
The liver breaks down Ifex using enzymes known as CYP 3A4 enzymes. These enzymes convert Ifex into other active substances called active metabolites. Medications known as CYP 3A4 inducers can increase the activity of these enzymes. Thus, combining Ifex with one of these drugs may increase the level of active metabolites in your body.

One of the active metabolites of Ifex can cause kidney toxicity and central nervous system side effects, such as confusion, headaches, and changes in behavior or mood. If this active metabolite is increased, you could have a greater chance of developing these side effects. Therefore, your healthcare provider will need to closely monitor you if you use Ifex with a CYP 3A4 inducer, and may need to adjust your Ifex dosage.

CYP 3A4 Inhibitor Medications
The liver breaks down Ifex using enzymes known as CYP 3A4 enzymes. These enzymes convert Ifex into other active substances called active metabolites. Medications known as CYP 3A4 inhibitors can decrease the activity of these enzymes. Thus, combining Ifex with one of these drugs may decrease the amount of active metabolites in your body, potentially making the medication less effective. Your healthcare provider may choose to monitor you more closely if you use these drugs together.
