Men Home > AndroGel Medication Information

Available by prescription only, AndroGel® (testosterone gel) is a steroid medication approved to treat low testosterone levels in men. This medication contains the hormone testosterone in a special gel that is applied to the skin just once a day. The gel dries on the skin, and testosterone is absorbed into the bloodstream throughout a 24-hour period. The most common side effects include acne, breast development, and prostate problems.

This medicine is not appropriate for everyone; your healthcare provider needs complete information on your medical history and what medications you are taking before prescribing AndroGel. In particular, let your healthcare provider know if you have prostate cancer, heart disease, sleep apnea, or any allergies.
