Men Home > Axiron Medication Information

Axiron® (testosterone topical solution) is a medicine approved to treat low testosterone levels in men. It comes in a pump that delivers exactly the right amount of medication each time; the product is applied to the armpits once a day.
Because Axiron is an anabolic steroid, it is classified as a controlled substance in the United States. This means that special laws and regulations control its sale and use.
Common side effects of this medicine include:
  • Armpit irritation
  • Armpit redness
  • Headaches.
Most people tolerate it well, however, and serious side effects are rare. Before starting treatment with this drug, talk to your healthcare provider if you have any other medical conditions, such as liver disease, prostate cancer, or any allergies. Also, let your healthcare provider know if you are taking any other medications, including herbal supplements or nonprescription products.
