Dutasteride (Avodart®) is a prescription medicine approved to treat an enlarged prostate (known medically as benign prostatic hyperplasia, benign prostatic hypertrophy, or BPH). It comes in capsule form and is taken once daily, with or without food. Dutasteride can be used alone or in combination with tamsulosin (Flomax®), another medication for BPH.

Prior to beginning treatment with dutasteride, information on the drug's precautions and warnings should be reviewed with your healthcare provider. This includes knowing the side effects to watch out for, such as erectile dysfunction and decreased sex drive, and how to properly store this product.
