Men Home > Generic Methitest
Although the patents for the medication have expired, no generic versions of Methitest (methyltestosterone tablets) are available. The reason for this is not entirely clear; however, it may have something to do with the fact that oral testosterone medications, such as Methitest, are not being used as much anymore. A safer, more affordable testosterone product, such as an injection, may be a suitable alternative.
Methitest® (methyltestosterone tablets) is a prescription medication approved for the treatment of low testosterone in men. It is also approved for use in women with certain types of breast cancer. The drug comes in the form of a tablet that is taken by mouth.
Methitest is made by Sandoz Canada, Inc., for Endo Pharmaceuticals Solutions, Inc. Despite the fact that it is a relatively old medication, Methitest is not available in generic form.
That is a difficult question to answer. The patents for Methitest expired long ago. There appears to be no legal reason why generic versions can't be made. Rather, it appears that the market for this medication is too small to attract generic manufacturers.
There is some thought that oral methyltestosterone use (such as with Methitest) is more likely to cause liver problems than treatment with other forms of testosterone, such as testosterone injections, creams, or patches. For this reason, oral methyltestosterone therapy has fallen out of favor and has largely been replaced by other forms of testosterone replacement.
Is impossible to predict when (or even if) generic Methitest may become available.
