Men Home > Methitest Dosage
Before prescribing Methitest, your healthcare provider will take several factors into consideration, including the condition being treated and any other medical conditions you have. There is no standard dose of Methitest that is right for everyone, so your healthcare provider will make adjustments as necessary. In many cases, a man's dosage for low testosterone is between 10 and 50 mg a day.
The dose of Methitest® (methyltestosterone tablets) your healthcare provider recommends will vary, depending on a number of factors, including:
- How you respond to Methitest
- The medical condition being treated
- Your testosterone levels
- Other medications you may be taking
- Other medical conditions you may have.
As is always the case, do not adjust your dose unless your healthcare provider specifically tells you to do so.
There is no one "standard" dosage for Methitest. Your healthcare provider will essentially guess at an appropriate starting amount, based on your age, diagnosis, and testosterone levels. From there, your healthcare provider will adjust your dosage as needed, based on how you react to the medication (how your testosterone levels change and how your symptoms improve).
The normal dosing range for this medication is 10 to 50 mg per day, although there are certainly some individuals who end up needing higher or lower dosages.
To start puberty in adolescent males, various dosage regimens have been suggested. Some healthcare providers like to start with a low amount and gradually work up to a higher one. Others prefer to start with a high dosage, lowering it once puberty is under way.
Doses in adolescent males who have late-onset puberty are usually in the lower end of the dosing ranges and for a short duration, such as four to six months. Your healthcare provider will measure your child's bone age and take this and your child's actual age into consideration when determining an appropriate initial and on-going dosage.
For treating women with breast cancer, standard dosages range from 50 to 200 mg daily.
Although the prescribing information for Methitest does not specify this, the medication is usually best taken several times a day split into two, three, or four smaller doses, rather than just one large dose once a day, due to its rather short half-life. This is particularly true for larger doses. Your healthcare provider will recommend a schedule that is right for you.
