Men Home > Generic Testim
At this time, Testim is not available as a generic; it is also not equivalent to AndroGel, another testosterone gel medication. The earliest predictable date that any generic Testim products could become available is January 2025, when the first patent for the brand-name medication expires.
Testim® (testosterone gel) is a prescription medication approved for the treatment of low testosterone in men. It is a gel that is applied to the skin once daily. There are no generic versions of Testim available at this time, and Testim is not equivalent to AndroGel® (another testosterone gel medication).
Testim is made by Contract Pharmaceuticals Limited for Auxilium Pharmaceuticals, Inc.
The first patent for Testim currently expires in January 2025. This is the earliest predictable date that a generic version of Testim could become available. However, there are other circumstances that could come up to extend or shorten the exclusivity period of Testim. This could include such things as lawsuits or other patents for specific Testim uses. Once the medication goes off patent, there may be several companies that will begin manufacturing a generic Testim drug.
The answer is no. "Testosterone gel" is the generic name for Testim but is not a generic version of the medicine. All medications have generic names, regardless of whether generics are available. The generic name is different from a generic version of a medicine. In order for there to be a generic version of a medicine, the original medicine must have gone off patent, and another company besides the original manufacturer must make the product.
It is important to understand that Testim is not a generic version of AndroGel (and that AndroGel is not a generic version of Testim). They are two different brand-name medications that are not interchangeable or equivalent.
