Five Hygiene Tips Every Man Should Follow

Tip 2: No "Vintage" Underwear

Boxers or briefs, warm thermal socks or dressy business socks, the choice is up to you. But whatever your preferences, don't let your drawers be full of threadbare, hole-riddled, sweat-stained, and generally dingy socks and undies.

In general, it's probably appropriate to replace your undergarments yearly (or sooner, if they wear out).

And while we're at it, it doesn't hurt to mention this crucial tip: change your socks and underwear at least daily. Please.

Want to go the extra mile? Make sure your shoes are also presentable. Keep them clean and keep your dress shoes polished. Replace them when necessary.

Tip 3: Don't Neglect Oral Hygiene

Brush your teeth twice daily and floss once a day. Every day. No matter how tired or busy you are. Replace your toothbrush every three months or so, and see your dentist every six months for a cleaning.

People sometimes put off visiting the dentist to save money, but that approach rarely works, as you'll pay the price for the neglect later.

Want to go the extra mile? Consider whitening your teeth, especially if you've got stains. You can purchase teeth whitening products through your dentist or from just about any grocery or drugstore.

Tip 4: Manage Your Body Odor

It's just a fact of life. Men, especially active men, stink. But it's basic good manners to try to minimize your stinkiness. Shower regularly. Wash your clothes regularly. Wear deodorant. If you still stink, shower more often and use a "clinical strength" deodorant (apply these highly potent deodorants at night for best results).

Make sure your clean laundry actually smells clean. Don't overload your washer, and don't wait too long to dry them. Wash or dry-clean your outer garments (like coats and jackets) as necessary, as these get stinky as well.

Want to go the extra mile? Consider a very light application of a cologne or body spray. Just don't overdo it.
