Testim Gel Information

Testim® (testosterone gel) is a prescription medicine often used for treating low testosterone levels in men. Low testosterone can occur due to problems in the brain or the testes, and Testim can treat either type because it does not rely on either the testes or the brain to increase testosterone levels.

Testim contains the hormone testosterone in a skin gel. It comes in single-use tubes and is typically applied to the skin of the upper arms or shoulders once daily. Be sure to cover the application site with clothing once the gel is dry to minimize contact with women or children, as virilization (the development of male characteristics) may occur.

Before you start using Testim, information on the skin gel should be discussed with your healthcare provider. It is important to be aware of the potential side effects of this medication, which may include prostate problems, high blood pressure, or skin reactions at the application site.

You should also talk to your healthcare provider before using Testim if you have prostate or breast cancer, heart disease, an enlarged prostate, or sleep apnea (as the medicine can worsen these conditions).
