Drug Interactions With Orally Disintegrating Vardenafil

CYP 3A4 Inhibitor Medications
The body breaks down orally disintegrating vardenafil using enzymes in the liver known as CYP 3A4 enzymes. Some other medications (known as CYP 3A4 inhibitors) can decrease the activity of these enzymes. Combining orally disintegrating vardenafil with one of these CYP 3A4 inhibitors may increase the level of orally disintegrating vardenafil in your body, increasing your risk for more side effects. Your healthcare provider may recommend another medication for erectile dysfunction if you take a CYP 3A4 inhibitor.

Nitrates
Orally disintegrating vardenafil should not be used in combination with nitrate medications, including prescription nitrates or recreational drugs that contain nitrate (amyl nitrite or butyl nitrite, sometimes called "poppers"). Taking these medications together may decrease your blood pressure to unsafe levels. You should not use orally disintegrating vardenafil even if you use a nitrate very infrequently, because you cannot predict when you might need the nitrate. You must wait at least 24 hours after taking orally disintegrating vardenafil to use a nitrate.

Other Phosphodiesterase Type-5 Inhibitors (PDE5 Inhibitors)
Orally disintegrating vardenafil is a PDE5 inhibitor and should not be used in combination with other PDE5 inhibitors. Using more than one PDE5 inhibitor will increase the risk of serious side effects. Because PDE5 inhibitors are sometimes used for treating other conditions, such as pulmonary hypertension, make sure to talk to your healthcare provider before taking a medication for erectile dysfunction if you are already taking orally disintegrating vardenafil.

Sapropterin
Taking orally disintegrating vardenafil in combination with sapropterin may cause your blood pressure to decrease too much. If your blood pressure drops too low, you may experience symptoms such as dizziness, lightheadedness, or fainting. Your healthcare provider may choose to monitor your blood pressure more closely if you take these medications together.
