An Introduction to Orally Disintegrating Vardenafil Side Effects
As with any medication,
orally disintegrating vardenafil (
Staxyn™) can cause side effects. However, not everyone who uses the medication will have problems. Most people tolerate it quite well. If side effects do occur, in most cases, they are minor and either require no treatment or are treated easily by you or your healthcare provider.
(This article covers many, but not all, of the possible side effects with orally disintegrating vardenafil. Your healthcare provider can discuss a more complete list with you.)
Serious Side Effects of Orally Disintegrating Vardenafil
Some orally disintegrating vardenafil side effects are potentially serious and should be reported immediately to your healthcare provider. These include but are not limited to:
- Sudden decrease or loss in hearing
- Sudden decrease, blurriness, or loss of vision
- Seeing a blue tinge to objects, or problems telling the difference between blue and green
- Seizures
- Sudden, temporary memory loss
- Prolonged or painful erection lasting more than four hours (priapism)
- Dizziness, lightheadedness, or fainting
- Chest pain
- Signs of an allergic reaction, such as:
- An unexplained rash
- Hives
- Itching
- Swelling of the mouth or throat
- Wheezing
- Difficulty breathing.
In rare cases, people taking medications for
erectile dysfunction, such as orally disintegrating vardenafil, have had serious heart problems. These problems include:
- Heart attack
- Sudden death
- Stroke
- Chest pain, or angina
- Feelings of a rapidly or forcefully beating heart (heart palpitations)
- Increased heart rate.
In most cases, people had risk factors for heart or blood vessel (cardiovascular) problems. Many of the problems happened during or shortly after sexual activity. Therefore, it is difficult to tell whether the problems were related to the medication, the person's existing cardiovascular problems or risk for cardiovascular problems, sexual activity, or a combination of these factors.
Orally disintegrating vardenafil should not be used in people who have serious heart problems that would otherwise prevent them from having sex. It is important to contact your healthcare provider or seek medical attention if you experience chest pain, dizziness, fainting, heart palpitations, or increased heart rate while taking orally disintegrating vardenafil or during sexual activity.
