Does Propecia Work in Women?

Propecia has not been shown to work in women. One small study looked at Propecia for women with male pattern baldness. All of the women in this study were postmenopausal. This study did not show a difference for the women who took Propecia and the women who took the placebo. This could mean that Propecia does not work for female hair loss, or it could mean that the study did not include enough women to be able to notice a difference.

Does Propecia Work? -- A Summary

Yes, Propecia does work for male pattern baldness. However, it does not appear to be effective for male pattern hair loss near the temples, and it has never been shown to work in women.
