Propecia® is a medication that is prescribed for the treatment of male pattern baldness. By blocking the conversion of testosterone into DHT, the medicine can help stop hair loss and regrow hair. However, Propecia has not been shown to be effective for a receding hairline near the temples. Propecia is also not licensed to treat hair loss in women or children. Propecia comes in a tablet form and is available in a 1 mg strength. Potential side effects of the drug may include decreased libido, impotence, or decreased ejaculate amount.
