Rogaine and Facial Hair

Although Rogaine® (minoxidil) may be an effective hair-growth product for some people, it may cause unwanted side effects for others. For example, women should only use the 2% formulation of Rogaine, as unwanted facial hair may occur if women use the 5% strength of this medication. A special Women's Rogaine is available in the 2% strength.

Although unwanted facial hair is a rare side effect of Rogaine, it is more likely to occur in people who touch their face after applying the medication. To help minimize this risk, make sure to wash your hands immediately after using Rogaine.
