Rogaine® (
minoxidil) is a nonprescription medicine approved for treating androgenetic alopecia (commonly known as male and female pattern hair loss) in both women and men. For men using Rogaine, there are two different forms (foam or liquid solution) and two different strengths (2% or 5%) available.
In clinical trials, 26 percent of men reported moderate-to-dense hair growth after using Rogaine for four months, compared to 11 percent using a placebo (a product that did not contain any active ingredient) for four months.
It may take up to four months for men to notice hair growth with this product. This medication is not a cure for baldness. If you stop using Rogaine, hair loss will recur within three to four months.
