Dosage of Sildenafil Citrate

While the recommended starting dosage of sildenafil citrate is 50 mg one hour prior to sexual activity, you may take sildenafil citrate anywhere from 4 hours to 30 minutes before sexual activity. The maximum recommended dose of sildenafil citrate is 100 mg. When recommending a sildenafil citrate dosage, your healthcare provider will consider your age, any medical conditions you may have, and any medications you may be currently taking, among other things. Be sure to talk with your healthcare provider if you are unsure about anything related to sildenafil citrate or your dosage.

Dosage of Sildenafil Citrate: An Introduction

The dosage of sildenafil citrate (Viagra®) your healthcare provider recommends will vary depending on a number of factors, including:
 
  • Your age
  • Other medical conditions you may have
  • Other medications you may be currently taking.
     
As always, do not adjust your dosage of sildenafil citrate unless your healthcare provider specifically instructs you to do so.
 

Dosage of Sildenafil Citrate for Erectile Dysfunction

The recommended starting dosage for treating erectile dysfunction is sildenafil citrate 50 mg one hour prior to sexual activity. However, you may take sildenafil citrate anywhere from 4 hours to 30 minutes before sexual activity. Depending on how well it works and whether you develop any side effects, your healthcare provider may increase or decrease your dosage of sildenafil citrate. The maximum recommended dose is sildenafil citrate 100 mg.
 

Dosage of Sildenafil Citrate: General Information

Some considerations for people taking sildenafil citrate include:
 
  • Your sildenafil citrate medication can be taken at any time during the day. However, it is not recommended that you take sildenafil citrate more than once in a day.
     
  • Your dosage of sildenafil citrate can be taken with or without food.  

 

  • For sildenafil citrate to work properly, you have to take it as prescribed. Sildenafil citrate will not work if you take it in a way other than how your healthcare provider prescribes.
     
  • If you are unsure about anything related to sildenafil citrate or your dosage of sildenafil citrate, please talk with your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist. Do not stop taking sildenafil citrate without first discussing it with your healthcare provider.
