Available by prescription only, Testopel
® (
testosterone pellets) is a medicine approved for treating
low testosterone levels in adult men. It is also licensed to help start puberty in adolescent boys who have delayed puberty.
Available as small pellets, Testopel is inserted via an injection just beneath the skin (subcutaneously). Each pellet slowly releases testosterone as it dissolves over three to six months.
Only one strength of this medicine is available (75 mg), and it is generally well tolerated. Some of the potential side effects include
headaches, acne, and reactions at the injection site.
