What Is the Testosterone Patch?
The testosterone patch (
Androderm®) is a prescription medication approved for the treatment of
low testosterone levels due to a variety of causes in men. It comes as a skin patch that is applied to the skin and changed every evening. The testosterone in the patch is absorbed through the skin into the bloodstream.
The testosterone patch is classified as a Schedule III
controlled substance. This means it has the potential for abuse. As a Schedule III controlled substance, there are strict laws and regulations controlling its sale and use.
Just like any medicine, the testosterone patch may cause side effects. However, not everyone who uses the patch will experience problems. In fact, most people tolerate it quite well.
If reactions do occur, in most cases, they are minor and either require no treatment or are treated easily by you or your healthcare provider. Serious side effects are less common.
Common side effects of testosterone patches include irritation at the patch site, such as:
- Itching
- Blisters
- Redness.
